For the DEV project I was put in charge of doing two problems; a factoring, and long division problem. I chose to do these problems because they are the problems I most understand. I would not be doing my favor by trying to accomplish one I do not understand such as a profit equation. I tried to make the problems challenging but understandable. By proving I can do a these problems, was confidence was boosted knowing I was of use in this project. I really enjoyed this project because it allows the students to go beyond the "solving a math problem" and use it in the real world with creativity. It's different from what you normally see and it allows for a bit of a mentality booster if you are willing to go the distance.

I chose to complete the profit function and the equation that found the amount of time it took to drop an object from the tops of the trees to the ground. I chose these equations because I like to think more on the logical side of things in math and when I can pertain what I am learning to the real world, it seems to click a little bit more to me. I’ve learned a lot from this trimester in Pre-calculus…more or less relearning most of the concepts…word of advice for everyone, never skip a year of math! It’s not worth it!

I chose to complete the square and to express the area of an extreme. I looked at the movie script we drew up and tried to think of 2 problems that can go along with the movie and that I am capable of doing. The extreme function seemed to make sense because finding how much ground to cover would seem to be helpful in a very tough “game” as such. I also chose to complete the square because it was one of the units in this class that I could understand because there was a right and wrong answer with a way to check if you were wrong. However, completing the square seemed a little simple, so I threw in the extra step of adding more unneeded numbers to cancel out. It gave this problem an extra step as I have learned as many of the problems in this class has needed. I learned more about the used problems because I learned how to use them in the outside world, and gave me a little more understanding about them. I enjoyed this project and learned a lot from it. Not just math and ability to solve, but character and learning to use trial and error in life making this project one of my favorites ever.

  2. Knock them down so you can bring them up? I'm not sure I like that strategy.

  3. You may need to turn the volume up to hear all of the sound effects.
