Inspiration.

So, I started writing a post about something that inspires me. That seemed like the safest, easiest way out of this assignment. Then after I started writing I realized that nothing I had written had much meaning to me, it was just a waste of space and words. So, long story short, I'm going to "stand up for something I believe in" instead.
The "something" that I believe in is gay marriage. For many people, this is a very controversial and touchy subject. I am a strong believer in legalizing gay marriage. I believe that in our constitution it says "…all men are created equal…" and in no way is banning marriage to a certain group of people, equal. There is no reason that men or women should not be able to marry the person they love, including gender.  A second reason why I believe gay marriage should be legalized is because a civil union is not the same thing as marriage. Legally, gay couples can enter a civil union together. Many people against gay marriage stage the question, “They have civil unions, why do they want more?” The answer to that question is simple. When a couple is part of a civil union they do not receive the same medical, financial, and social rights as couple who are married. A third reason that I strongly believe in this issue has to do with the problem of bullying and youth suicide. Many of the suicides committed today have to do with being bullied for many different reasons, including sexual orientation. If there is already a separation made from the laws of the state between homosexuals and heterosexuals there is going to be a much more harsh and hurtful division in children and adolescents, causing the “minority” to be bullied.
There are many different reasons that I believe gay marriage should be legalized in addition to the three above. It is something I have always strongly believed and I will always fight for it.

  1. I commend you for your strong beliefs. I too believe that it shouldn't be the government's job to define marriage. Whether individuals agree or disagree on gay marriage, it truly shouldn't matter. The love between two people can only affect the world positively and to be honest it isn't the business of a country or government. Nice work!
